The Sector for European Affairs and Cultural Development covers EU affairs falling within the scope of culture, cooperation with international organisations, evaluation, development and documenting cultural policy and joint questions concerning individual viewpoints.
 
In the sector the following special tasks are performed:

  • organising cooperation on cultural matters within the EU,
  • directing, coordinating and developing the Ministry’s final positions on legislative proposals by the EU,
  • monitoring intent-directed EU programmes for culture,
  • covering areas within the European structural funds,
  • cooperating with international organisations and webs (UNESCO, Council of Europe, INCP an so forth),
  • monitoring, analysing and evaluating cultural policy,
  • monitoring and analysing the current state of culture,
  • coordinating the preparation, monitoring execution, reporting on the execution and proposing amendments of national programmes for culture,
  • developing cultural-political measures and system solutions intended for cultural development and modernising cultural policy,
  • comparatively analysing cultural policies of reference states and preparing materials and information thereof,
  • monitoring the execution of legislation and evaluating its effects,
  • database management and the management of other public records in the Ministry,
  • documenting and collecting materials important for cultural development,
  • organising external research support for the Ministry’s programmes,
  • ensuring expert administrative support for the National Council for Culture and for the Chamber of Culture of Slovenia,
  • organising public debates, consultations and a symposium in the area of cultural policy,
  • organisation of training in the area of cultural policy and cultural management,
  • covering joint system questions that refer to individual viewpoints on cultural policy (regionalism, payment system for the public sector in the area of culture, cooperation with representative syndicates, protection of copyright and so forth).
