The Directorate for Art covers a number of areas:

  • performing arts
  • musical arts
  • visual arts, architecture and modelling
  • inter-media art
  • book and library science

In the Directorate the following group tasks are performed:

  • preparation of expert groundwork and regulations as well as monitoring domestic and European legislation falling within the working areas of the Directorate,
  • monitoring viewpoints on development falling within the working areas of the Directorate,
  • cooperation with domestic and international governmental and non-governmental expert organisations, associations and with their working and expert bodies as well as with individuals.
  • cooperation with other domestic organisational units of the Ministry and with domestic and international bodies within the framework of group projects,
  • preparation of groundwork materials debated by the government of the Republic of Slovenia and the parliament of the Republic of Slovenia and by the working and advisory bodies of the European Commission and the European Council as well as the preparation of opinions for such groundwork materials,
  • development and harmonisation of developmental projects, measures and criteria for co-financing cultural programmes and projects as well as commenting on analysis, information and reports prepared by the responsible internal organisational units,
  • cooperation with administrative bodies of state public institutions and public funds and in project groups regarding substantive questions on investment projects,
  • preparation of proposals for annual and long-term plans on co-financing cultural programmes and projects as well as financial matters in project management,
  • coverage of European culture-intended programmes within the working area, and executing the procedures and monitoring the projects connected to financing from the European structural funds,
  • participation in projects and regionalism viewpoints as well as monitoring their effects,
  • conducting acts of administrative procedure,
  • simultaneous and periodical evaluation of the intended lawful, economical, effective, suitable use of public funds for the areas concerned, 
  • management of prescribed record-keeping, cooperation in developing joint databases, and communication with the public according to prescribed internal rules,
  • monitoring the execution of activities regarding the public funds that are within the working area of the internal organisational unit and the realisation of its obligations to the Ministry as well as project management connected with activities that are within the Ministry’s competence.

In the Directorate the following special tasks are performed:

  • monitoring the following development viewpoints: creating and mediating cultural goods, employment and self-employment, discovering public interest, international cooperation, education, training and the condition of infrastructure and equipment,
  • coverage, execution and coordination of viewpoints of social instruments in the area of culture (self-employment, recognised and exceptional pensions),
  • developing, coordinating and executing procedures connected with scholarships and occupational training in the area of culture,
  • covering, coordinating and executing procedures on recognising organisations in the interest of the public, societies, establishments and private non-profit institutions (examination), and coordinating the expert discovery of public interest in the public sector (classification of subjects at three levels: state, regional and local importance),
  • coordinating the issuance of opinions regarding the applicants for obtaining citizenship,
  • coordinating and executing the tasks of the Prešeren Fund Secretariat,
  • ensuring accessibility to complete information on the art situation in Slovenia,
  • preparing administrative procedure decisions issued at the second level on the legal remedies against administrative decisions issued by the Inspectorate of the Republic of Slovenia for culture and media due to a breach of the Act on Enforcing Public Interest in the Field of Culture.
