Tone Peršak assumed duties of the Minister of Culture
On Friday, May 20th, Tone Peršak was sworn in as the new Minister of Culture. He has replaced mag. Julijana Bizjak Mlakar as minister and follows Gorazd Žmavc as interim minister since April 25th.
Tone Peršak graduated in theatre direction and literature and worked as a writer and theatre director, later as a professor at the Academy for Theatre, Film, Radio, and TV at the University of Ljubljana.
He has served as president of Slovene Writers' Association and as chairman of the PEN International Slovene Chapter.
One of the leading actors of liberalization and independance in the 1980s he served as MP in the 1990s and then as mayor of Trzin 1998-2014. Prior to his appointment as a minister he has served in the current goverment as state secretary (i.e. deputy minister) at the Ministry of Culture.
