This Merry Day of Culture

On Saturday, 3 December, numerous cultural institutions – museums, galleries, theatres, libraries and more – will again open their doors wide, offering free entry to exhibitions, workshops, shows and concerts. As many as 335 events will be organised by 140 institutions in 55 Slovenian towns.

The initiative to open the doors to Slovenian culture on 3 December, anniversary of France Prešeren’s birth, was launched in Prešeren’s Year 2000. The open door day, later renamed This Merry Day of Culture, has since then grown into a mass cultural event making arts and culture more widely accessible.

The aim is to bring culture closer to those who, for various reasons, rarely visit museums, galleries and similar venues. The organisers wish to acquaint the wider public with the programmes developed by cultural institutions this year, and motivate visitors to come again.

Diverse and high-quality programmes are intended for visitors of all ages, for individuals, families or groups.

The list of events all over Slovenia with opening hours and more detailed information is available on the website of the Ministry of culture.
