After studying at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, he furthered his studies in the class of maestro Jean-Marie Londeix in Bordeaux, where in 1994 he received the gold medal and honorary award of the city of Bordeaux for saxophone and chamber playing.

Along his musical career he played at numerous festivals at home and abroad, and collaborated with internationally acclaimed ensembles and orchestras. He is a cofounder and the president of the Ansambel Slavko Osterc music society and a co-founder of the Slovenian society of saxophonists, Saksofonija, of which he has also been president since 2009. From 2003 to 2006 he was the artistic director of the World Saxophone Congress, and he is a regular guest teacher at various universities around the world. In 2016 he gained the title of associate professor at the University of Ljubljana. From 2010 to 2018 he headed the Conservatory of Music and Ballet, Ljubljana.
